I hope you had an amazing holiday season, and youāre feeling refreshed, renewed and excited as we enter a brand-new year!
And not just a new year, but also a BRAND-NEW DECADE!
Iām going to be talking a LOT about motivation and goal-setting this month ā¦ but, first, I want to mention something really important.
Do you ever set goals and then feel overwhelmed by them?
Like, you wonder what in the world you were thinking of when you set themā¦ or they just seem too big, or too overwhelming ā¦ or maybe you wonder where to start?
These are mind games that a LOT of us play on ourselves ā¦ and it actually can be a type of anxiety!
The terrible thing about it is that it can make you want to quit before you even begin.
I have a suggestion for you, something thatās even MORE important than having a plan to reach your goals.
Itās actually the most IMPORTANT thing.
Itās TAKING ACTION.
ACTION ALLEVIATES ANXIETY.
Give me a ālikeā if you understand what Iām talking about!
Nothing beats anxiety better ā¦ and shuts down mind games faster ā¦ than ACTION.
Just DO ONE THING to move yourself forward. Even if youāre not sure exactly what you should do.
Donāt overthink it. Just DO it.
Taking action will help give everything clarity. Itās so liberating.
You donāt have to wait until you find the perfect plan, or get advice from others, or spend time debating all the angles and options.
And you donāt have to buy the perfect piece of equipment before you can start.
You just have to take ONE SIMPLE ACTION.
Hereās an example. Letās say you want to start working out. Instead of coming up with a 10-point plan, looking up info on the internet, or buying supplements, letās say instead, you simply lace up your sneakers and go for a brisk walk. Or do a few exercises at night while you watch TV.
You can get more tactical and focused later. Just do something NOW.
Or if you want to clean up your nutrition, you can swap your next snack for something healthy, like a piece of fruit or a handful of nuts. You donāt need to wait till next weekend to come up with the perfect meal plan.
The most important thing is that you do SOMETHING.
And when youāre done, you will have replaced that anxiety with a tremendous feeling of accomplishment!
As a bonus, youāll find that while those mind games might not have completely gone away, they sure are a lot less noisy!
Thatās a good goal in and of itself for this year, isnāt it? And for the whole decade, for that matter!
So always remember this: Action alleviates anxiety.
I hope this message hits home with you, today. Iād love to know what action you are going to take today to move yourself toward your goals. Leave a comment or drop me a message!
